Google continues to make real estate listings more prominent inside Google Maps, and in doing so, it continues to inch closer to being a full-fledged real estate search engine. The company announced today that a new “real estate” option has been added across Google Maps. It appears under the “More” tab, along with Photos, Videos, [...]

Yahoo filed an extension last night to its self-imposed deadline for signing the pending search deal with Microsoft. When the deal was announced on July 29, the companies expected to complete the deal by October 27, but that didn’t happen. During its analyst day presentations yesterday, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz told financial analysts not to worry about the move, insisting it was just a matter of “running out of time.” “It’s a 10-year agreement, so we’d like to get it right up-front,” Bartz said. She said the delay should not impact the timelines Yahoo and Microsoft expect for regulatory approval.

Google recently launched a new feature that uses RSS and Atom feeds to discover new web pages. This helps Google index new webpages faster than traditional methods. As a result, you’ll want to make sure that your robots.txt file allows Googlebot to crawl your feeds. To learn more about robots.txt from Google’s standpoint, click here. In other feed news related to Google, AdSense for Feeds is now available directly in Blogger. You can find the integration under the “Monetize” tab in the Blogger dashboard.

One size doesn’t fit all in local search. And there is no reason to throw out traditional media such as Yellow Pages just to become dependent on Google. In fact, every media still has its purpose, and should be analyzed on the basis of how it is actually used, according to a new study by [...]

Google has added an element to their latest homepage test that instructs people what to do after they’ve entered a keyword. The sentence “Press enter to search,” now appears under the box where you type in your keywords – where the old submit buttons used to be. Here’s a screenshot. (Click image for a larger view.) The “Press enter” phrase was not seen in earlier screenshots of the homepage test. I’ve apparently gotten the test version lately, as I’ve seen the fade-in and the lack of buttons, but this is the first I’ve seen the “Press enter to search.”

While it remains unclear whether Google Voice should be treated the same way as other telecom companies, the search giant isn’t taking any chances with the rather unpleasant probing it’s receiving from the Federal Communications Commission. Thanks in part to the finger-pointing of AT&T, Google has to answer the accusations that it does not connect [...]

First Chopra, then Ballmer, and now, for the next installment of CNET Conversations, we’ll be talking to Google CEO Eric Schmidt. There are, to put it mildly, a few things to talk about. From Android explosion to Net neutrality to cloud computing to music search to the company setting its sights on the enterprise to, well, your questions. Google is possibly the most dynamic and influential company in the tech space right now, with its fingers in just about every possible pie. Our biggest challenge in speaking with Schmidt will most likely be limiting our conversations to a reasonable length of time.

Yahoo is apparently thinking about making a run for the border: the Sunnyvale border, that is. Marketwatch reports that Yahoo is finally preparing plans for a parcel of land it acquired three years ago in Santa Clara, Calif., a few exits south on U.S. 101 of its current headquarters in Sunnyvale. The land has apparently sat vacant ever since Yahoo bought it in 2006 in hopes of expanding, which, of course, didn’t exactly work out given Yahoo’s financial performance over that time and the economic downturn.

Earlier this month, StumbleUpon started showcasing their new homepage design, when they touted their “Google + Twitter” social search. Now they’ve gone through the rest of the site to make it more consistent (less customizable), easy to understand and streamlined. Read Write Web reports: The new interface is streamlined and more social with an updated relationship system. [...]

Sony Ericsson took over the Yahoo U.K. homepage today, in an innovative, if slightly underwhelming attempt to create “the world’s first online flash mob.” At 3pm GMT (11am EST) users visiting the site were greeted with around 100 user generated hopping avatars, bouncing around the page to promote the launch of the manufacturer’s Satio and Aino handsets. However, initial reactions on Twitter suggest the effort may have done more to promote Yahoo than Sony Ericsson.
